Emergency dry-in in twelve hours — then a lasting TPO system
During Hurricane Milton (October 2024), tornado-force winds stripped the modified bitumen built-up roof (BUR) on a Duke Energy facility of approximately 55,000 square feet in St. Petersburg. Inside, the building housed critical, irreplaceable electrical equipment essential to Duke Energy’s mission of restoring power to communities across the storm-impacted grid.
Duke Energy contacted Horizon for emergency response. Within twelve hours of that call, a twenty-person Horizon crew was on site and prepared to dry in the property. The team worked through the day to complete a full temporary dry-in, successfully stopping water intrusion and protecting the equipment and operations below.
That dry-in held for approximately five weeks, giving Duke the time needed to plan the permanent solution. Horizon then installed a new TPO roofing system engineered for longer service life and greater resilience against Florida’s wind, heat, and weather — a system built for the demands of coastal utility infrastructure.
